Welcome to Development Services Exchange (DSE)

The national umbrella body for civil society organisations (CSOs) in Solomon Islands

We are a network of over 70 members, including local and international NGOs, churches, and community-based organisations. We work across diverse areas of social development, such as education, health, gender, youth, livelihoods, peace-building, environment and conservation, and disaster management/rehabilitation.

Our Vision

We envision a vibrant and robust civil society sector that works together to empower peaceful, prosperous and sustainable communities in Solomon Islands. We promote good governance among development partners, towards improved quality of life for the people of Solomon Islands.

Our Mission

Our mission is to strengthen effective CSO coordination through advocacy, information-sharing, capacity building and collaboration. We ensure a credible, accountable and transparent civil society sector working toward equal and sustainable development in Solomon Islands.

Our Values

We are guided by the following values in our work and practices:

Social Justice:

We respect and promote the rights of all people, especially the poor and marginalised, and promote equality between men and women.

Interdependence:

We believe in the power of collective action and facilitate opportunities for CSOs and their stakeholders to work together for common goals.

Self-Reliance & Empowerment:

We support people’s right to organise and lead their own development efforts.

Knowledge Sharing & Learning:

We learn from our experience, from other CSOs and development actors, and from local and indigenous communities. We share our knowledge and innovation with others.

Relationships:

We appreciate the rich web of relationships that are the foundation of Solomon Islands society and strive to strengthen and nurture them.

Leadership & Management Excellence:

We promote a style of leadership and management that honours and nurtures the potential of each person while serving the interests and aspirations of members and the wider community.

Good Governance & Stewardship:

We operate with integrity, transparency, accountability and inclusiveness. We use resources wisely and responsibly.

We are also committed to the Istanbul Principles for CSO Development Effectiveness which guide the development work of CSOs worldwide.
